Turbulence and Vertical Flows in Clouds
Turbulence is usually more intense in all types of clouds than in the surrounding air. This is mainly due to the fact that in clouds, particularly cumuliform clouds, thermal stratification is often neutral or even unstable. Turbulence is also appreciably intensified by the pronounced horizontal inhomogeneity of the air temperature and density fields in clouds.
