Abstract

The CdTe-ZnTe strained-layer superlattice (SLS) system was initially proposed as a buffer layer for growing high crystalline quality Hg1-xCdxTe epitaxial layers on GaAs substrates (mismatch = 13.7%). This system by itself raised a lot of interest of a fundamental nature: Would these SLS’s have to be considered as a new system with constituent layers which are not independent?
