Abstract

Our further progress rests upon another excursion into topology: theory of complexes and related polyhedra (only for dimension two), with applications to surfaces in the next chapter. However, we do not plan to pursue topology beyond “piecewise linear” arguments. This is done in order to minimize recourse to more delicate arguments which would be imposed by full fledged topology, and which we really do not need.
