Partial Differential Equations

Frequently, it is partial differential equations that we encounter in applied mathematics. Quite often, there are symmetries or other features which make it possible to reduce the partial differential equation to two or more ordinary differential equations. Let us illustrate the procedure by considering an example from physics.
