After Beal’s paper, Calne asked Beal to comment a little bit more about the distribution of the agent that Beal presented. Beal stated that the agent might be more widely distributed in the environment, and he further mentioned the disease in cattle called staffers which is found in the western part of North America and Canadian provinces and is caused by cattle being exposed to mildewed hay, or mildewed feed. Therefore, low-dose exposure may be possible under some circumstances.
