Geometrical Definition of the Dam

In this chapter we record the geometrical definition of the dam of the pre-project of GRAND’MAISON arch dam proposed by COYNE-et-BELLIER [1977] at the request of ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE. Since the thickness of the dam is small with respect to the two other dimensions, we shall represent the dam as a thin shell in the sense of KOITER [1966, 1970]. In this goal, we give the definition of the middle surface of the dam as also the definitions of the corresponding geometrical parameters. The meaning of these parameters is specified in BERNADOU [1978, 1980] or in BERNADOU-CIARLET [1976].
