Abstract

This chapter explains how to make simple fastenings that are appropriate for the chains described in this book. Some are the same as those used on ancient chains of this type. Instructions are given for making ten types of clasps, which have been coded and matched to the chains in the book; the codes for suitable clasps are given at the end of the chain directions, and the chains that will work with a clasp are given at the beginning of the clasp directions. In most cases, one type of fastening is used to finish several chains; however, specific clasps have been designed for some of the new versions. The clasps for Chains 3 and 9 are integral to the chain and instructions for making them are part of the chain directions.
