Zinc Absorption in Humans Determined Using In Vivo Tracer Studies and Kinetic Analysis

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 249))

Abstract

Absorption of zinc from the gut is the first in a series of processes in which zinc is taken up by the body, utilized in the tissues and then excreted. The absorption and metabolism of adequate quantities of zinc are important in humans since zinc deficiency is associated with symptoms of impaired growth, delayed maturity, skin lesions and taste and smell dysfunction (Prasad, 1979).
