Introduction to Laboratory Information Management Systems

  • Richard R. Mahaffey

To this point, we have examined many of the concepts and practices related to the use of computers in analytical laboratories. We have stated that a LIMS provides the information management tools that lab analysts require to manage the tremendous amount of information which they are required to handle. In Chapter 5 we begin looking in detail at LIMS functions — what they do, how they work, and how the different commercial packages implement the various functions. This in-depth look at individual LIMS functions will be better understood if we first review all the functions and the sequence in which we expect them to be used.
