Ultrastructure of Elastin Coacervates

Electron micrographs of negatively stained coacer-vates of supernatant from son1cated-elastln showed the presence of filamentous structure with the center to center distance typical of tropoelastln, synthetic polypentapeptlde as 1n peptide Tl of tropoelastln, and α-elastln. Electron micrographs of negatively stained coacervates of the polypentapeptlde, α-elast1n and sonicated elastin exhibit banded fibers when coacervates are formed, stained and dried at temperatures greater than 50°C.
