Cortical Responses to Repetitive Contralateral Stimulation after Sectioning of the Corpus Callosum

Abstract

After sectioning of the corpus callosum, direct cortical stimulation with single stimuli in the unanesthetized animal can still evoke a train of mainly surface negative responses from the contralateral cortex [1]. This kind of response only appears with relatively intense stimuli, and is not seen with reduced intensities of stimulation. In further work, we observed that if low-frequency repetitive cortical stimulation were used, and if the stimulus intensity were not too great, then electrical potentials could still be evoked from the contralateral cortex following section of the corpus callosum.
