Presidential Address
  • Ralph W. Gerard

Medicine, psychiatry, and public health have mostly been concerned with improving the ill and the subnormal; they have been concerned with dis-ease. But surely the great opportunity for the future, as well as the need, is to raise the norm itself. This is my theme today and, had I not used the title previously, I might have called this talk “Building Better Brains.”
