Cloned T Cell Progenitors from Mouse Bone Marrow Give Rise to Lymphocytes with Multiple Anti-H-2 Reactivities
Most evidence suggests that all hemopoietic cells, including lymphocytes are derived from a common pluripotential stem cell1,2 It has also been clearly demonstrated in several cell lineages, such as the neutrophil granulocytic series, that there exists a discrete progenitor cell population that is restricted to a certain differentiation pathway3. The presence of a common lymphoid stem cell or progenitor has been implied from studies with long term bone marrow cultures4. In addition, studies using radiation induced chromosome markers have also pointed to the presence of discrete T cell progenitors, whereas no such progenitor cell could be identified for the B cell lineage5.
