Isolation and Properties of Spleen Follicular Dendritic Cells
There are several excellent electron microscopic studies of follicular dendritic cells (f.d.c.) in germinal centres, identified by their capacity to bind detectable antigen-antibody complexes at their surface (1, 2, 3, 4). They show that f.d.c. have an irregularly shaped nucleus with relatively little perinuclear cytoplasm, but they have long branching cytoplasmic extensions lacking lysosomes or any indication of phagocytosis.
