Immunoperoxidase Analysis of B and T Cell Populations in Human Lymphoid Follicles
Although the exact function of germinal centres is unknown, it has been suggested that they play important roles in the proliferation and maturation of antigen-responsive B cells and in the refinement of antibody specificity (1–3). Germinal centres contain T cells and dendritic reticulum cells in addition to B cells, and it is believed that all three of these cell types must co-operate with one another to provide normal germinal centre development and function (4–8). Little is known, however, about the nature of the interactions that actually occur among these different cell types.
