Aspects of the Velocity Field And Dispersion Relation In Surface Wind Waves

Abstract

The spectra of the wave velocity field and elevations are compared with the relationship of the linear spectral theory. In a first approximation the deviations are correlated with the influence of currents and low frequency components. Experimental tests of the dispersion relation is carried out. The deviations from the linear relation are found. Nonresonance and nonlinear interactions are discussed in relation to these deviations. Tangential wave stresses are measured which differ from zero. Phase lags between wave velocities components are shown.
