Comparison of X-Ray Diffraction, IR-Spectroscopic, and Polarizing Microscopic Core-Shell Analysis of Urinary Stones

Abstract

Qualitative and quantitative stone analysis is used today to determine specific treatment to prevent stone recurrence. Two- thirds of all urinary stones are mixed stones, so crystal nidi may differ from the remainder of the stone. Stone composition may change in a patient with time. The core and shell of a calculus can be composed of different crystal types. This study compares several methods of stone analysis.
