Mechanism of T Cell-Mediated Cytolysis: An Investigation of Cells and Stages Affected by Cytolysis-Inhibiting Monoclonal Antibodies

A key question when studying the mechanism of T cell-mediated cytolysis (1–4) is whether specialized molecules are at play at the surface of effector cells, not only at the recognition stage but also at the post-recognition lethal hit stage (2) of cytolysis. Detection of such molecules could greatly benefit from the availability of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) interfering with the cytolytic mechanism. With this in mind, we developed a range of rat antimouse mAb selected for their ability to inhibit cytolysis (5,6). Six of them were used i nthis work; some of their characteristics are given below.
