Grain-Size Sorting of Sandy Silts and Clayey Sediments of Various Facies Types
One of the most characteristic features of deposits in humid zones is the more or less clearly defined sorting of material according to grain size. This is the inevitable result of grain-size variations among the transported clastic particles and of the action of water as the chief transporting factor; but the degree of sorting is extremely variable and depends on the facies character of the deposit.
