Distribution of Climatic Types of Lithogenesis on the Earth’s Surface During Phanerozoic Time
Although the types of lithogenesis described in the preceding part of the book have undoubtedly existed since the earliest geologic times that are accessible to our investigation, the areas occupied by each of them have by no means remained constant in size, shape, or position on the surface of the earth. For a complete description, therefore, it seems desirable to survey the distribution of lithogenic types on the earth’s surface during past geologic time. This is especially necessary for the climatic types, since the following parts of this work will be devoted to a detailed analysis of two of these: humid and arid.
