Accumulations of P-CaCO3-MgCO3-SiO2, their Origin and Distribution within Humid Zones

Abstract

In a manner similar to that in which Al-Fe-Mn forms an ore triad with systematic relationships in ore accumulations, P, authigenic SiO2, CaCO3, and MgCO3 constitute a tetrad, closely associated genetically with the triad, but displaying a completely different mechanism of concentration in sediments. This circumstance is important for a correct understanding of humid sedimentation in general; it will therefore be considered in detail with reference to the development of high concentrations of these components.
