It is extremely difficult to present an interesting lecture on the principles of biochemical profiling for workers currently engaged in screening or in clinical laboratory work. Obviously, many of you realise the reasons and justification for these procedures and hence it will be my aim in the next 20 minutes to merely outline the principles of profiling as I see them and to illustrate these principles with examples of my own experience.
