Picosecond Exciton Phenomena in Chlorophyll Complexes

Chlorophyll-portein complexes are now well established as the building blocks of the light-gathering system in all photosynthetic cells. Complexes containing N=6, 7, 13, and up to the order of 100 chlorophyll molecules have been characterized by many researchers with varying degrees of completeness. Homogeneous samples of these complexes are interesting from the point of view of exciton dynamics because the small value of N compared with 1023 in crystals means that exciton motion can be followed completely (in principle).
