Polarons

Abstract

The concept of polarons and its evolution during the last decades are discussed. Fröhlich’s Hamiltonian is derived and the main theoretical methods for large polarons are reviewed. The properties of polarons, as for example self-energy and effective mass are described. Finally small polarons and the difference between these latter and Fröhlich’s polarons are discussed.
