Pion Single Charge Exchange

Abstract

The relation of the (π±0) charge exchange reaction to the (p,n) reaction is discussed. The operating principles and performance of the LAMPF π0 spectrometer are given. First results for the (π+0) reaction on 7Li, 90Zr, and 208Pb are presented. The measured A-dependence of the o0+0) cross sections at Tπ = 100 MeV from A=1 to A=208 are compared with the semi-classical diffraction model of Johnson.
