Charm Production from 400 and 800 GeV/c Proton-Proton Collisions

This is a report on charm particle production from pp interactions at 400 and 800 GeV/c as measured in experiments NA27 (CERN) and E743 (Fermilab). The 400 GeV/c data is final. It provides the most accurate charm production cross section measurement to date. The 800 GeV/c data is preliminary. The combined data provide a measurement, with small systematic error, of the energy dependence of charm hadroproduction from 27 to 39 GeV. These data are compared to the predictions of charm particle production via the QCD fusion model with various charm quark fragmentation schemes.
