Abstract

Sperm banks, in addition to being beneficial in other ways, facilitate recording and centralization of AID requests. Since the Marseille CECOS center was opened four years ago, about 10% of the requests addressed to us have been refused, either because the couple’s sterility was entirely attributable to the wife or because the husband’s subfertility could be successfully treated(hypogonatrophic hypogonadism, excretory azoospermia, varicocoele). There were 558 requests granted, 551 of which were prompted by male sterility judged to be irreversible and 7 by genetic abnormalities or Rhesus incompatibility.
