Organisation of Sperm Banks on a National Basis
There has been a considerable increase in the demand for artificial insemination with donor semen (AID) in several European countries during the past 5 years. In Great Britain there was an increase of one third between 1976 and 1977. This rise in requests for AID is mainly due to the striking decrease in the availability of children for adoption due to the liberalization of the abortion laws and effective contraception.
