On the Diagnostic of Non-Linear Effects

  • J. L. Bobin

Abstract

Various methods capable of evidencing possible instabilities in laser plasma interaction are reviewed: direct absorption measurements, density profile modification, X-ray emission, forbidden and satellite lines, harmonic generation. A special emphasis is put on the last topic. The connexion of 3/2 ωL emission with the two plasmon decay is investigated. The effects of various coupling schemes on the line profile of this line and the 2nd harmonic are presented. The available experimental data are reviewed: observed harmonic lines, spatial origin of such lines, intensity dependence, line shapes.
