Physics with Antiprotonic Atoms

The method of using exotic atoms to study atomic, nuclear, and elementary-particle physics has been a well-established technique for some decades. A multitude of information has been extracted from the X-ray spectra of muonic and hadronic atoms in the past. Detailed reviews of the experimental technique and the evaluation of the data are given elsewhere1. A compilation of data from hadronic atoms can be found in an earlier paper of the author2. In the following the basic properties of exotic atoms, in particular antiprotonic atoms, are recapitulated.
