Appearance of the Rotional Oscillations of Methyl Groups in Low-Frequency Raman Spectra

For studying the rotational oscillations of the methyl groups in the low-frequency Raman spectrum we considered that methyl-substituted cyclohexanes constituted a good type of sample. We see, for example, from the structural formula of methylcyclohexane that, apart from the rotational oscillations of the CH3 group, only deformation oscillations can appear in the spectrum. We can hardly expect substantial intermolecular interactions in these substances. The latter factor facilitates analysis of the results obtained.
