Radio-Frequency Powered Raman Sources
The construction and performance of high-intensity electrodeless lamps, suitable as light sources for the excitation of Raman spectra, are described. The lamps are powered by a 3-kW RF oscillator operating at about 5 Mc, and intense light emissions have been obtained from mercury, helium, rubidium, cesium, potassium, cadmium, and thallium. As Raman sources, these lamps offer advantages over conventional discharge lamps because of their ease of construction and their interchangeability within their RF power source.
