The Characterization of Saturated Aliphatic Esters in the 15–40 Micron Region

Saturated aliphatic esters have very characteristic spectra in the 15–40 μ region. Acyl and alkyl components can be identified separately. A correlation chart has been prepared showing characteristic bands for formates, acetates, propionates, butyrates, isobutyrates, valerates, isovalerates, hexanoates, heptanoates, methyl esters, ethyl esters, propyl esters, isopropyl esters, n-butyl, isobutyl, secondary butyl and tertiary butyl esters, and neopentyl esters. Band assignments in this region are discussed for some simple esters.
