Communication satellites are one of the most important applications of space science. Exploiting wisely the future possibilities will help us to overcome problems between men and nations due to lack of communications. But it is the problem of our generation to make adequate preparations in order to avoid traumatic experiences in the future. We have the responsibility to understand the technological development and take the necessary actions in planning and decision-making. The techno-economic maximization is only part of the solution. More important are the administrative and political implications.
