Crystal Field Influence on the Specific Heat and Schottky Effect in Rare Earth Monosulfides

Abstract

The rare earth monochalcogenides have a wide homogeneity range1–3. In the monosulfides (LnSx) it ranges from x=1 to x=0.90 (LaSx) to x=0.84 (PrSx) and to x=0.78 (NdSx). We have investigated the influence of the deviation from stoichiometry on the specific heat and the Schottky effect in RE monosulfides.
