Magnetic Properties and Quadrupolar Interactions in PrAg
The rare earth intermetallic compound PrAg has the cubic CsCltype structure (a = 3.718 Å). Bulk magnetization measurements on polycrystalline samples have been interpreted as indicating a ferromagnetic behaviour (1) (Tc = 14 K) whilst neutron diffraction experiments (2) have clearly shown the existence of an antiferromagnetic ordering below TN = 14 K. On the other hand, the field dependence of the magnetization on a polycrystalline sample above TN has revealed a behaviour which has been explained by the presence of biquadratic exchange coupling (3).
