Since the eighteenth century it has been known that cholesterol and acid products are present inbile. These latter contain sulfur and nitrogen derived from the amino acids taurine and glycine. The bile acids are conjugated with the amino acids through peptide bonds. The conjugates thus formed are specific for various animal species, including man. This fact is highly important in experimental work.
