New Polishing Materials Consisting of Quasimetallic Compounds
The behavior of micropowders of a number of quasimetallic compounds during polishing and finishing operations has been investigated. It was found that in these processes micropowders of refractory compounds and the existing abrasive materials are ground in almost the same way and have identical geometry of the grains. The polishing characteristics of the refractory compounds TiC, Cr3C2, etc., are no worse than those of existing abrasive materials and are not greatly inferior to synthetic diamond for polishing hardened steel.
