Investigation of the Hot Hardness of Cast Zirconium Carbide

Abstract

Measurements of the hot hardness of cast specimens of zirconium carbide with a porosity approaching zero and a density close to the theoretical value are reported. The hardness was determined by a static method in the temperature range 900–1650°C. With rise in temperature both cast and hot-compacted zirconium carbide undergo softening.
