Abstract
In experiments on thin films of nematic liquid crystals (NLC) two typical classical alignments of the director field are often used: vertical (homeotropic) or parallel (planar) to the boundaries. In this brief report we deal with experiments that are performed on thin homeotropic films of the nematic MBBA [N-(p-methoxybenzy-lidene)-p-butylaniline] having a negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε = εll - ε1 < 0).
