The teaching of CAE in a polytechnic engineering department — Huddersfield experience

  • T. Hargreaves

Abstract

Experience in the teaching of CAD in a highly design-orientated mechanical engineering department is described and proposals for the future are offered.

Integration is seen as the greatest need — CAE instead of CAD, with emphasis placed on the everyday use of the computer as a tool in all ‘traditional’ engineering areas.

The object is not just to teach students how to operate a computer, but to equip them to face the challenges of computer-aided engineering which they will meet in their future careers.
