Abstract
Good quality engineering software suitable for educational purposes is in short supply. Most of the development is done within the educational establishment where it will eventually be used. The work is time consuming, and is frequently considered to be an improper use of an academic’s time. Two types of educational software are identified and suggestions are put forward to make them more available for academics.
