Epilogue: social sciences and social futures

I have suggested, as strongly as I can, that people will make their own future. The question arises whether the new ‘experts’, the social scientists, will be advising and shaping this future. I think not. The concept of a ‘social engineer’ is, however, gaining such potency (usually as an agent of maladaptive strategies) that an explicit redefinition seems in order.
