The doomsday scenarios

  • Fred Emery
Part of the International series on the quality of working life book series (IQWL, volume 5)

Some of the maladaptive scenarios that were discussed in the previous chapter have exercised a remarkable grip on the imagination of people, others have exercised their influence less directly through their influence on other thinkers and writers. However, they have in common the fact that the futures they describe are ones that they see people bringing into being through their own social and political processes. In contrast we have had a recent avalanche of ‘Doomsday scenarios’ which see man’s future as being shaped by biological, technological and economic processes that have got out of hand.
