Remarks and References Regarding Arc Theory
Although many questions considered in this work might be regarded as touching the field of arc theory, I wish to restrict the term ‘theory of the arc’ to those discussions that offer a complete or, at least, far-reaching account of the inter-relations between the arc parameters. In this chapter a basic equation of arc theory used for arcs having cylindrical symmetry will be merely outlined (§ 4.2); moreover, some attention is drawn to the problem of thermal conduction (§ 4.3) and to the ‘channel model’ (§ 4.4). The main purpose is to give the interested reader a few references—and the inevitable chain of sub-references—that may serve as a starting-point for an elaborate and laborious study.
