General Discussion of the D.C. Carbon Arc

In this work we are concerned with the carbon arc in air at atmospheric pressure. By the term ‘carbon’ we mean primarily the element of which the electrode material is composed, and do not particularly refer to the ‘amorphous’ allotrope carbon.
