Dissociation Phenomena and Band Emission
The plasma of the carbon arc in air is composed of the elements nitrogen, oxygen and carbon. Unless the discharge takes place in a controlled atmosphere of dried air, hydrogen must also be considered. The molecular composition of the plasma is complex at the elevated temperatures prevailing in the arc.
