Abstract
Gold, along with silver and copper, is a member of the IB group of the periodic table, the coinage metals (Table 1-1). Its principal oxidation states are + 1 (aurous) and + 3 (auric). Gold is soluble in cyanide solutions and in aqua regia, forming complexes of the types [Au(CN)2]−, [AuC12]−, and [AuC14]−. Gold solubility is highly influenced by redox reactions.
