Laser Compression and Fusion of Plasma

Abstract

In the paper a short review of works on laser concentric heating and compression of plasma, from the point of view of nuclear fusion, has been given.

Then different variants of approximate, averaged description for a D-T sphere submitted to the concentric laser compression by taking into account the recovered fusion heat, were considered. Among others the integral similarity model was discussed for the kernel of the D-T sphere (Fermi liquid) and the expanding outer layer (two-temperature plasma).

Averaged description taking into account the fronts of thermal and shock waves have also been proposed. The idea of explosive precompressing of laser compression of plasma has been proposed. It allows to reduce the critical laser pulse by a few tens per cent (2–3 kJ).
