Interactions of Divalent Cations with Planar Lipid Membranes Containing Phosphatidylserine
Planar lipid membranes supported by millipore filters, are a model system particularly well suited for the investigation of transport phenomena across biological membranes. This model membrane system, that separates two essentially infinite compartments and allows control of the solution composition, it can be used to assay directly electrical potentials and currents associated with ion transport, since these processes are conveniently monitored electrically with high sensitivity 1,2.
